Noeline Taurua

Silver Ferns Head Coach

On the back of an enviable record, the popular Noeline Taurua was installed as the 11th Silver Ferns coach in 2018 and wasted little time in leaving her mark.

In just 11 short months, the well-respected and affable Noeline completely transformed the Silver Ferns fortunes, from finishing out of the medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games to world champions in 2019.
Noeline completed her outstanding 2019 World Cup campaign in Liverpool while juggling the dual roles of coaching the Silver Ferns and Sunshine Coast Lightning during 2018-19.
In the 2019 New Years Honours, Noeline was made Dame companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to netball. In 2020, Noeline was awarded Coach of the Year at the 57th Halberg Awards.

With a Masters of Science in Performance coaching, Noeline is at home in the high performance environment where she has a proven knack of getting the best out of her players, and creating a winning culture.
She has tasted success on both sides of the Tasman. Plying her trade in Australia, Noeline made a sensational impact when leading newly established franchise Sunshine Coast Lightning to back-to-back premierships (2017,2018) and minor premiership (2019) in the Suncorp Super Netball competition.
In New Zealand, Noeline coached the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic from 2002-2013, leading them to two National Back Cup titles and one ANZ Championship title. Waikato Bay of Plenty became the first and only New Zealand based team to win the Trans-Tasman championship.
She took over the Southern Steel in 2015, claiming the former Trans-Tasman Netball League Minor Premiership in her first campaign with an unbeaten record in the regular season. Noeline was an assistant coach for the Silver Ferns in 2011 and 2012.
A mercurial goal attack, Noeline played in the 1995 World Cup and 1998 Commonwealth Games for the Silver Ferns before a knee injury ended her 34 test career. Noeline has been involved with netball for over 40 years and has fashioned a stellar career at grassroots, domestic and international level.

Noeline was lovely to deal with. Very accommodating and a good communicator, when we were making last minute changes to messaging and schedules. She stayed behind afterwards to chat with our customers and had time for everyone. STIHL
