Jessica Mutch McKay is the Political Editor for 1 News. She’s been a journalist since 2006 including as Europe Correspondent, Q & A Presenter and Press Gallery Chair.
Jessica has travelled the world reporting on major world events, terrorist attacks, conflict zones, Prime Ministerial visits and trade deals. She has covered elections in New Zealand, Australia, US, UK and Europe and has interviewed the who’s who of the political world both here and overseas.
In 2020 Jessica worked on the election coverage including adjudicating the TVNZ leaders debate and minor leaders’ debate. You may have also seen Jessica on your TV screens a lot in 2020 reporting on the Governments response to Covid-19 as well as the updates from the 1.00 pm media briefings.
Jessica loves television and being able to show people what’s happening as well as authentic reaction to the big questions. It’s a high adrenaline, fast paced world. Jessica also has a young family so there is a bit of juggling going on behind the scenes!
