Profile

Kathryn Berkett has been teaching audiences about themselves for over sixteen years. She is the master of getting across research-based, neuroscientific information in a way that is easy to understand, internalise and translate into practice.

Current work
Kathryn is one of a few specialists in the country who has certified with Dr Bruce Perry as a Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) practitioner. She also has her Masters of Educational Psychology.
Kathryn’s work takes her all over the country working with a huge range of different organisations and individuals - including the National Police College and a diverse range of people from politicians to judges, corporates, schools, parents and athletes.

Kathryn has built up a huge knowledge base around interpersonal neurobiology, and continues to study and take part in trainings on the subject - always keeping her information up to date and relevant.

Speaking work
As a speaker, Kathryn has a unique ability to engage audiences, convey complex information in an easy-to-listen to, easy-to-understand way. The information she can share with you will enlighten you about yourself and those around you.

What is it about that moment when we can’t find our keys? Or we can’t remember the new password we entered? Or we are standing in front of someone and their name just won’t come to our lips? Maybe you want to know about that person in your team who seems to ‘block’ any ideas or progress? Or you want to know why you can’t get into the ‘flow’ some days but can in others? Kathryn will unpack the stress response and our neurobiological reactions to our environment in a way that will have you saying: “Oh my goodness - that makes complete sense!”
This information will give you the insight and clarification to set in practice new ways of avoiding these moments. And when you can’t avoid these moments (because lets be real - we are only human) you will have more understanding of why they happen, and be more likely to forgive yourself and those around you. A great way to improve our world - one situation at a time!

Kathryn’s work has resulted in thousands of people to be inspired, validated and energised by the information she imparts. Many have cited the way Kathryn delivers this information as being ‘life changing’. Her natural speaking passion ensures the communication happens at the right level to hit the mark for your session.

A session with Kathryn will be absolutely sure to have those who attend talking about her for weeks - and sometimes years!

Mental Health/Wellbeing/Resilience

The often-said phrase “a dysregulated adult cannot regulate a dysregulated child” is essential for educators to be aware of. We learn a lot about trauma informed care for our students, making sure we understand how to make their environment safer and more conducive to learning. This is really important and useful learning. However, what we also need to respect, is the wellbeing of the educators. Understanding our own stress responses is essential to positive mental health and better wellbeing. Becoming more resilient is possible when we understand the biology and neuroscience behind it.
A resilient educator will be significantly more effective when it comes to the challenging behaviour of certain students. This session will unpack the neuroscience and biology around resilience, which is the pathway to more positive mental health and a better wellbeing.

Dealing with Challenging Behaviours

Challenging behaviour in schools is increasing. This increase means the learning around the ‘why’ is becoming more essential.
High end trauma activated behaviour is on the increase, and so is behaviour from the regular student who is less attentive and willing in our modern world. Neuroscience and biology can help us understand how our modern world is impacting the development of the brain at both of these levels. This information can give us a clearer picture of why these major behavioural changes are occurring, and therefore, what we can do in our environments to counteract as much of it as possible.
Feedback
Kathryn presented our team with some very valuable information regarding the neuroscience of self-care. Our team commented that “it wasn’t hand holding fluffy stuff, it was practical”, “I thought I was OK at work but I can see my stress levels at home are up there”, “the length of the presentation was great” and “I really took away some good stuff from that”. Kathryn was excellent - presentation was engaging & connected well to content from earlier in the day. Kathryn did a stunning job in explaining the complex teenage brain and left us with many newfound information.

Sport New Zealand

Lovely style, enjoyed her humour and real life relatable examples of tolerable stress. Clear message.

Life Education Trust

Our people really enjoyed Kathryn’s session, especially because it was strongly rooted in science. I think more practical tips on how to manage the stress would have made the session even better.

Treasury New Zealand

Kathryn was absolutely fantastic, we have received brilliant feedback after her session with our delegates really resonating with what she was saying and how they can take it forward in both their personal lives and professional careers.
