Profile

Mary Lambie is a popular media personality who has been working in the industry for 25 years. She owns her own Media Training and Media Consultancy company and appears regularly on radio and television political panels.

Mary is a popular MC and also delivers keynote addresses on a variety of topics such as how to be an excellent media performer, building a business, dealing with staff plus juggling a busy family while working.

Mary is the Director of Socius, a Media Training and Media Consultancy.

She sits on the board of Piha Surf Lifesaving and PRINZ (Public Relations Institute of NZ) Northern and is a member of Global Women. As the mother of twins, Mary is the patron of the Multiple Birth Association.

Previous work
Mary has seven years’ experience as an award-winning small business owner - owning and operating Subway franchises. She sold up in 2015 to concentrate on her media communications and media training business.

Journalism: Her first jobs in journalism took her round New Zealand to work as a journalist, nine to noon and breakfast host and newsreader. Then in 1991, Mary won a scholarship to live and work in Japan. For three years she taught English and was Radio New Zealand’s Tokyo correspondent.

On her return to New Zealand, Mary hosted the BBC World Service Business programme and worked as a radio talkback host. She was asked to work on a series of television documentaries for the production house Communicado which led to joining the NBR television business programme.

At the beginning of 1997, Mary took over the role of host of TV One’s Good Morning programme. She was also appointed newsreader for Horizon TV’s Auckland newscast until its closure in 1999. In 2000/ 2001, she presented the very popular “Money Doctor” programme. Mary returned to Newstalk ZB in 2003 as Leighton Smith’s fill in, as well as continuing to host the Good Morning show until early 2004 when the show relocated to Wellington.

Mary has been a Woman's Weekly Columnist where she waxed lyrical about everything to do with raising kids and in 2007 wrote a little book called “101 Quick Tips for Surviving your Kids' with Debbie Mayo-Smith.

Interests and personal life
Mary enjoys long distance cycle races and has competed in the K2 - Coromandel 200kms, Melbourne Bay 200kms, Tour of Samoa 400kms, Taupo 160kms. She has also completed the Coast to Coast twice.

Mary is married to broadcaster Jim Mora and has three teenage children Grace, Elizabeth and Jack.
