Tom Mulholland

The Attitude Doctor who can improve your way of thinking


For the past 30 years Dr Tom Mulholland has led an expeditionary clinical life. From working clinically in surf camps, on Russian Icebreakers and organising medical conferences in Tropical and Polar regions he has seen the highs and lows of the human condition. An Emergency Medicine hospital doctor and Rural GP he has travelled extensively mostly as ships doctor but also in disaster relief and medical aid in remote villages.

Dr Tom's mission in life is to improve the wellbeing of the planet. He founded the Healthy Thinking Institute and the KYND app which measures, monitors and manages mental, physical and social health. Since 2014, he has been touring NZ in his retro chevy ambulance trying to keep people out of hospital and in 2021, he founded Sea Aid, a not-for-profit enterprise which aims to saves lives and improve the oceans ecosystem in the Pacific.

Currently, Tom has been involved in the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine, working on the front-line in rural New Zealand. Tom understands first-hand the anxiety that misinformation is causing in our workplaces and communities, and has also been delivering talks around the country to companies and organisations. In his presentations he translates complex medical information from his background in medicine and First Class Honours Degree in Molecular Genetics into everyday language, adapting it to the audience using terms people can identify with and understand.

Dr Tom has given over 1000 keynote presentations on wellbeing to international clients including the likes of Google, Microsoft and Hilton. Using his experience as a doctor, entrepreneur, CEO and as a stand-up comedian, he is an expert on workplace stress, emotional control, productivity and wellbeing to improve your way of thinking and outlook. His presentations will have you laughing, crying, entertained and educated by an experienced doctor both in the clinic and on the stage.

He has had a few personal disasters as well such as divorce ad experienced the Family Court. He was hit by a 20-foot-high Tsunami in 1994 at 2am while working as a Doctor in Java Indonesia, that swept him into the jungle and killed 500 people. He then went and helped in the boxing day Tsunami and received the NZ Defence forces Special Services medal. He holds the world record for the greatest number of Polar Bears seen in one place at one time (241) while working in the Russian Arctic. Dr Tom also holds a 1st class honours degree in Zoology, has been an honorary lecturer in Psychological Medicine at the University of Auckland hosted his own TV and Radio shows and written extensively on risk and wellbeing. He has also written two international best-selling books on Healthy Thinking including 'Healthy Thinking - How to Turn Life's Lemons into Lemonade' and 'The Power of Healthy Thinking - To Change Your Attitude and Your Life'.

When he is not working as a doctor or on the speaking circuit, Dr Tom enjoys extreme sport and expeditions. He lives on his 40-foot boat which he has circumnavigated New Zealand on, is a passionate surfer, diver, snowboarder and adventurer having surfed some of the world’s best waves and Heli-skied in Russia and Greenland with his family.
