Andrew Dickens is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable voices in broadcasting, with a career spanning over four decades. Known for his sharp wit, engaging style, and ability to connect with audiences, Andrew has become a household name through his work on some of the country’s most popular radio stations.
For 15 years, Andrew was a key presenter on Newstalk ZB, New Zealand’s leading talk station with an audience of more than 600,000. Before that, he spent 13 years hosting the breakfast show on Classic Hits, where for seven consecutive years his programme was Auckland’s number one music breakfast show. His humour, insight, and distinctive voice have made him a trusted companion to millions of listeners.
Currently, Andrew is the full-time fill-in host on Newstalk ZB, stepping into major shows when regular hosts are away. In 2025 alone, he has helmed Early Edition, the Drive Show, and the Mike Hosking Breakfast, showcasing his versatility and depth of experience. His own programmes have included the long-running Andrew Dickens Monday Afternoons talkback show and the Andrew Dickens Sunday Café, both of which achieved #1 ratings. He also fronts the Holiday Breakfast every summer and previously hosted the Afternoon Show for 18 months.
Beyond radio, Andrew is a passionate advocate for men’s health, sharing his personal journey with prostate cancer since his diagnosis in 2019. His candid writing for the New Zealand Herald and public speaking have helped raise awareness and inspire others.
Andrew’s broadcasting career began as a trained journalist, including work as a business journalist for the BBC World Service in New Zealand. Internationally, he spent three years presenting on Monte Carlo’s Riviera Radio and a year hosting on London’s Sunrise Radio.
A seasoned event host, Andrew has MCed everything from major rock concerts and New Zealand’s largest fireworks display to corporate galas such as the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards and the Axis Awards for the advertising industry. His experience includes moderating panels, interviewing high-profile guests, and leading large-scale events with professionalism, humour, and poise.
