Te Patu

Award-winning wellbeing advocate, co-owner of Awhi Yoga and Wellbeing & Founder of M3 Mindfulness for children

Wellbeing is adjusting your oxygen mask before you adjust others.

Jase Te Patu is a popular TED talk speaker and an award winning wellbeing advocate with over 30 years’ experience in the health and wellness sector.

Current work
Jase is the co-owner of Awhi Yoga and Wellbeing and the Founder of M3 Mindfulness for children. Jase facilitates, leads, and inspires many with his simple mindfulness-based techniques that have helped the likes of Hollywood director James Cameron, the All Blacks, the Silver Ferns, The Green Party of Aotearoa - and many more corporate clients.

His work at M3 encompasses mindfulness, movement and Maori stories in a series of videos and live sessions taught to over 10,000 Primary school and Early Childhood aged children throughout New Zealand.
Jase draws upon his 30 years of working in the wellbeing industry, where he has learnt the real value of teaching these skills, particularly to our teachers and children.

Jase says: "Yoga and mindfulness meditation saved my life! M3 is a beautiful way to share these tools and skills with our young ones. If our tamariki and rangatahi can learn strategies from a young age to help them, especially when they are challenged mentally and emotionally, then they will be resourced for life! Let’s start this work early so our next generation of leaders become super powerful!"

Jase has received many awards for his work particularly in the mental health and wellbeing space. These include the NZ Exercise Industry Awards, 2018 Body/Mind Teacher of the Year, the Lifekeeper’s Award for Suicide Prevention, the Regional Local Hero medal as part of the New Zealander of the Year Awards 2018, and the Absolutely Positively Wellington Award 2019.

Jase is a Champion for Youthline, an Edmund Hillary Fellow and an Ambassador for international brand lululemon.

As a speaker, Jase delivers a heartfelt, powerful, yet humorous story interlinked with his expertise to guide your audience through importance of health and well-being.
As an MC, Jase’s varied skill set makes him the perfect host for any event in the education and health sectors.

Talking Points

Self-care begins with us

Let’s change the paradigm that taking care of ourselves first is selfish. When we are good, then life is good.
Especially after COVID-19, health and wellbeing is a MUST! Jase breaks down the Maori model of Hauora - Te Whare Tapa Wha, to help individuals, teams and workplaces thrive from taking care of their holistic wellbeing.
Self-care should involve physical, mental, emotional and social wellness. It can be simple and tailor-made. Jase can help you and your team devise a self-care plan implementable today.

The Art of Connection

The Art of Connection is a tool we can all learn to master. In a world where engagement is key, it's not about what is being delivered, it's about the HOW!
Jase has a powerful way of not just delivering the Art of Connection but by being it. He will listen, see and respond to your needs as a company or group. He will make you feel welcome and open to trying new ways to communicate and engage.
This session is about improving the way you deliver your message to the world in a more powerful, potent way.

Stress and the tools to thrive

Stress is at an all-time high post-covid. The questions is, are we all equipped to deal with the day to day stressors, which if not addressed, can amount to breaking point?
Awareness is the key to noticing our stressors and moving through the challenges from not just surviving - but to thriving. Let Jase lead you and your team in a workshop to find tools and skills to mitigate the challenges of life both at work and home!

Make mental and emotional wellbeing a must!

Our mental health is at crisis level here in Aotearoa. Mental health services are stretched to the limit. Jase shares some simple mindfulness, breath and visualisation tools to create a team of mentally well and emotionally intelligent people at your workplace.
Let him share his 30 years worth of experience in the wellbeing industry with a session that is interactive, engaging and powerful!
Jase brought his powerful story to the team at the British High Commission, Wellington. He took us through a Te Reo yoga course to release our bodies and minds to more fully hear his personal story. And his journey into the importance of mindfulness that he is bringing to schools across New Zealand. His story, and way of telling it, will inspire you to look again at how you move your body and still your mind. British High Commission

We invited Jase Te Patu to speak on the importance of health and well-being during the 2020 General Election. We did so due to his reputation and expertise. He delivered a heartfelt, personal yet humorous speech to our staff, followed by an interactive activity which allowed individuals to develop self-care plans. Then the team as a whole discussed ways leadership could implement tactics to bring them together as a team and help push wellbeing internally. The election can be an intense and unforgiving time and staff felt excited that we already had a plan in place, and to see their employers valuing their wellbeing. Staff and our Minister for Women also talked about how engaging they found Jase, and that they’d love to see him back again but on a regular basis. Which is exactly what we’ll be asking him to do!

I have engaged Jase to work alongside us, delivering korero/yoga/meditation/mindfulness to teachers in the Early Childhood Education sector. In the time I have known Jase, he has shown integrity and a strong work ethic in the mahi he engages in. Jase is passionate about all aspects of holistic wellbeing, particularly mental health and mindfulness in relation to our most vulnerable, and most treasured; our tamariki. Jase is knowledgeable, personable, and an inspiration to those he comes in to contact with; both young and old. I have no hesitation in recommending Jase, personally and professionally.

Les Mills New Zealand had the pleasure of inviting Jason to present throughout New Zealand in 2019 at our Les Mills Group Fitness Instructor Workshops. These Workshops are held each quarter in our main centres Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Jason created and presented a training session called ‘The Art of Connection’ that was tailored especially for our Group Fitness world. The training was delivered to all the Group Fitness Instructors that travel from all over New Zealand to their regional Workshop. We can have over 600+ instructors attend the Workshops. The Art of Connection session was a massive hit and the feedback we received was incredible. Jason took the time to be at each training session way before and after. He has a presence that everyone can’t get enough of. As soon as he walked into the studios the instructors were totally engaged. The Workshops are designed for instructors to be up-skilled in their craft and these guys are hungry for content that can take them to the next level, which The Art of Connection did just that. I have had the pleasure of working with Jason over many years and he’s always been professional, kind, gone over and above what is asked, an authentic leader, inspirational... the list goes on. On a personal note Jason has been a very dear friend to my family and I for many years and it was another proud moment (there have been many) seeing him present in a space he owns.

Jase Te Patu was a delight to work with. His calm, down to earth manner made him very relatable with the audience. He was able to get through all the content provided to him while also bringing his own personality and experience into the presentation to bring the ceremony to life. We had a large crowd of 630 guests and he was able to keep them under control and run to time, while also allowing the award winners to savour their moments. I could not recommend Jase as an MC highly enough.
