Dream big, go for it, and enjoy the bumpy ride!
Few athletes understand resilience, pressure and reinvention quite like Shane Bond.
Widely regarded as one of New Zealand's greatest fast bowlers, Shane's journey to the top was anything but straightforward. Growing up in Christchurch, he dreamed of becoming both a police officer and a BLACKCAP. While working as a police officer, he pursued cricket on the side before earning his New Zealand debut at the age of 26 – later than many of his peers but proof that determination and hard work can overcome even the longest odds.
What followed was an international career defined by both exceptional success and significant setbacks. Renowned for his pace and skill, Shane became one of the world's most feared fast bowlers, representing New Zealand in all formats of the game and earning a reputation as a world-class competitor. Yet injuries repeatedly threatened to end his career, including major back surgery that forced him to spend years fighting his way back to the highest level.
Following his retirement from international cricket, Shane completed an MBA and successfully transitioned into high-performance coaching. He was part of the BLACKCAPS coaching team that guided New Zealand to its first Cricket World Cup Final in 2015 and went on to become a key member of the coaching staff at the Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful franchise teams in world cricket. His coaching career has also included leadership roles across international and franchise cricket, working with some of the biggest names in the game.
