Trevor
Hone

Multi award-winning Builder

Profile

Trevor Hone is a builder who started his career as a band manager - a time he describes as extremely unsuccessful but very good fun, noting that no one has ever heard of any of the bands he managed, which is why he ended up as a builder.

Utilising his degree in Economics, Trevor had a stint as an FX broker in the City of London (Italian Lira specialist if you were wondering) where he also started redeveloping old houses and selling them on.

In 2001 he and his wife Dr Lucy Hone moved to New Zealand for a six-month break to have their third child, and never left. After building their house in Sumner, he became an Architectural house builder in 2003, employing 13 people and holding a portfolio of award-winning builds.

Giving back is important to Trevor, who was a junior coach at Sumner Rugby Club for nigh-on a decade and is a Pillars Mentor.

Trevor is half way through a Diploma in Mental Wellbeing Science and as a speaker, shares his life outlook and fundamental strategies to cope with every day, life-changing moments and learning how to acknowledge the good.

Growth Through Adversity: How challenge and change can teach us better ways to work and live

Trevor Hone has learnt the power of adopting a resilient mindset the hard way.

Running an award-winning architectural building company for 20 plus years, Trevor knows a thing or two about handling stress and challenges, but the loss of his 12-year-old daughter in a tragic car accident taught him more about confronting adversity than he ever imagined.

“Losing Abi changed my approach to life completely, making me reevaluate everything, and shifting my priorities in a way that was hard to deny. It sent me on a journey to discover more about myself and a determination to help others. What I’ve learned, particularly about post-traumatic growth, and how to foster it, is something everyone needs to hear.”

In this heart-warming and often humorous session, Trevor shares practical strategies for developing personal resilience and managing stress. A master at connecting with a wide range of people - from building site labourers to highly qualified professionals - his insights on forgiveness, cultivating better relationships, and post-traumatic growth, will inspire you to live better today, and feel more hopeful about tomorrow.
